About the faculty
In 1992 Karakalpak State University established Turkmen Philology and in 1994 Uzbek Philology and Kazakh Philology. These directions together with the Karakalpak philology were part of the Philology faculty and later the Faculty of Foreign Languages. In 2008, the faculty of Uzbek philology was established on the basis of Uzbek, Kazakh and Turkmen philology. Dean of the faculty were F.Bobojonov (2008-2011), H.Abdullaev (2011-2018), O.Duysenbaev (2018-2019), F. Bobojanov (2019-2020). From March 2020, the faculty has been headed by doctor of philology, PhD M.Kurbaniyazov.
As part of the faculty of Uzbek philology, there are three undergraduate education programs. These are:
5120100 – Philology and Teaching Languages (Uzbek)
5120100 – Philology and Teaching Languages (Turkmen)
5120100 – Philology and Teaching Languages (Kazakh)
There are four departments in charge of educational directions:
The Uzbek linguistics (the head is I. Kazakov)
The Uzbek language and literature (the head is I. Kurbanbaev)
Turkmen Language and Literature (The head is Doctor of Philology O.Geyleeva)
Kazakh Language and Literature (The head is J. Sharipova)
At the faculty of the Uzbek philology work Ch.Chariev, deputy dean of academic affairs, and G. Urazbaev, deputy dean of youth affairs.
At present there are 45 professors and 9 technicians in the main staff of the faculty of Uzbek philology. Two of the professors are doctors of science, 4 are PhD and associate professors, 10 professor teachers are candidate of science and docents. In the staff of the department of Uzbek linguistics there are 12 professor teachers, 4 of them have scientific degrees and their percentage is 33.3%. The main staff of the department of the Uzbek language and literature is 21 professors, 8 of them are teachers with a scientific degree and percentage of academic degree in this department constitutes 38.1%. At the department of the Turkmen language and literature there are 6 teaching staff, 2 of them with scientific degrees and percentage of academic degree in this department constitutes 28,5%. At the department of the Kazakh language and literature there are 5 teaching staff, 2 of them have scientific degrees and percentage of academic degree in this department constitutes 40.0%.
Currently, the faculty has 635 undergraduate students. The contingent of bachelors in the faculty of Uzbek philology is as follows:
5120100 Philology and language teaching: 393 students study in Uzbek philology
5120100 Philology and language teaching: 162 students study in Turkmen philology
5120100 Philology and language teaching: A total of 80 students study in Kazakh philology.
The chairs of the faculty are also responsible for the preparation of the following masters specialties:
There are 12 master students majoring in 5A 120101 Literary Studies (Uzbek Literature).
There are 11 master students majoring in 5A 120102 Linguistics (Uzbek language).
There are 3 master students majoring in 5A 120102 Linguistics (Kazakh language).
There are 4 master students majoring in 5A 120102 Linguistics (Turkmen).
The faculty of Uzbek philology is located on the 4th floor of the universitys 2 building.
